In editorial design, we design magazines, art catalogs and literary book titles. Equally important to us is the entrepreneur as publisher, whose valuable commemorative publication on the companys' anniversary or scientifically oriented corporate book publication requires high-level design, editorial and print production. As a counterweight to fast-paced digital communication, editorial design creates lasting values for the brand. There is room for storytelling and brand content that can not be adequately conveyed in other media.

Editorial Design for recommended 19/20

For the second edition of the recommended Olympus Fellowship, ondesign realized the exhibition catalogue in a new look. In close cooperation with COOMEDIA, the cooperation agency responsible for the project and concept, a high-quality print work is being created and thus an elegant presentation of the international cooperation of the three photography museums Haus der Fotografie Deichtorhallen Hamburg, Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam and Fotografie Forum Frankfurt with Olympus as the sponsor of the fellowship. The designers take the stylistically and conceptually different orientation of the three new scholarship holders* as a starting point for a triad in design - especially in typography.

Letters become images

In the catalogue, the designers also give each of the three scholarship holders a typographical identity of their own. Of course inspired by the artistic concept of the photographs. From top to bottom: Karla Hiraldo Voleau, Tobias Kruse, Mika Sperling.

Strong optics and natural haptics.

The special effect of the different fonts in the layout is noticeably enhanced on the catalogue title. Hot foil stamping in a special metallic colour tone creates a visual and haptic contrast on the untreated uncoated paper. Quite obviously a strong eye-catcher. Just art you can touch.

Typography illustrates photography.

In the work of Karla Hiraldo Voleau itself, type plays a decisive role. The designers contrast this with a clear visual language and geometric typefaces. With Tobias Kruse very minimalist and with Mika Sperling with striking lightness, layout and type design strike the right note.

The exhibition is open

In the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, House of Photography, the exhibition recommended Olympus Fellowship can be seen from 7 May to 30 August. Volunteer Paula Michalk gives a successful introduction in the video of the museum.
The catalogue with contributions by the curators and texts by the fellows is available there. German/English, approx. 80 pages, approx. 60 illustrations, 21 x 28 cm, 5 Euros.
