BLUE FISH, BLUE GOLD

A collection of five pins with a little swarm of bluefish. As the blue gold of the Mediterranean, the fish is a valuable source of nutrients like Omega 3. The graphic style is reminiscent of Mediterranean tile paintings from Vietri. The fish turns the pin into a lucky charm, as a symbol in many cultures for peace, wisdom, abundance and harmony with the flow of life. So that dreams come true.

RIFLESSO

The surface of an ordinary mirror made of polycarbonate, light and unbreakable, is pierced with embroidery. This creates a transparent, modern tapestry that can be made in different sizes and colours. Riflesso is an object charged with symbolic values. This is achieved by applying a decoration consisting of elements taken from archaic textile patterns such as those of Sardinian tapestries. Recipient of the award First Special Mention in the international competition Design and Mediterranean – Between present and future.

l' appeso

The mirror is suspended from a clothes hanger (appeso). The same decoration with a Mediterranean flair appears on both sides. The elements can be combined freely, giving rise to changing configurations of silk-screen printed mirror surfaces and hand-painted fabric backs. L’appeso was named after the Tarot card The Hanged Man and is a reference to Calvinos Orlando who, when strung up by his feet, cried out, “Leave me like this. The world can also be read the other way round. All is clear” – as in a mirror.

SIMPLY GREEN

An old cherry wood chair of a simple, anonymous design is given a new texture without the use of paint or other interventions, just with 532 metres of wool wound at the joints with an ethnic flair. Recycled packing straps made of plastic material form a light, essential and almost transparent seat. The surface of the wool must be treated with care, but if it is damaged it can be replaced by do-it-yourself methods. The green colour emphasizes the green nature of the object – ecologically sound because of re-use and recycling. Design by Francalma Nieddu.

KARTOLINO

A little table made of corrugated cardboard with rubber sides in the colours red, orange, white, black or purple. The production off-cuts from the inside and outside shapes yield the material for a further large table and a small table. All three shapes can be pushed inside each other. Design by Francalma Nieddu, small-series production by ondesign.

PAPIER UNION – „PAPER POOL“

Paper selection tool and image vehicle. Papier Union’s white and blue box was designed to simulate the look of the screen media. The touch-and-feel component of paper as a material comes over all the more strongly in the communication mix. Users confirm that the boxes have excellent functionality.

READING (DESIGN) ISLANDS

A carpet that becomes a seat and integrates an enclosed reading area. The “reading (design) island” is very much like a cosy old armchair. The carpets that cover the folding structure of the seats are hand-made Kelims. When folded, the product takes up little space and is easy to transport. It can be used in public buildings to create a reading corner, complemented by a small table, a lamp and a screen as shown in the touring exhibition “reading (design) islands, 10 design seats for 10 design books”.
